The Tombs of the Pharaoh

The Crypt of the sorcerer map is pretty small, and actually already close to 1″ squares, so for this one I added a lot.

I noticed the Crypt map is designed  a lot like an Egyptian tomb so I had my theme. Here’s a pic of the Crypt inked onto the foam-core:

And here is the whole map inked and painted:

I still need to add some decoration and the monster/treasure tables to the margins.

Here’s a close-up of one section:

Here you can see the catacombs. The back story I thought up is that these catacombs were built near the original Pharaoh’s tomb much later, and happened to bump into the Pharaoh’s crypt. They also connect up with the corridors connecting the queen’s crypt and temple room. The one small room adjoining them is a lair of the ghouls that haunt the catacombs. Lastly some tomb robbers dug a tunnel that connects up and offers a possible exit — I think the map might be too lager to complete in one go and the adventurers will need an escape that doesn’t involve going all the back.

The catacombs will basically work like “Halls” in the original games, with wandering monsters, but there are also several piles of bones that have minor treasures (the original games never put treasure in hallways). The catacombs will also be an exception to the rule that monsters can’t leave the room or hall they appear in — wondering monsters here can pursue characters into any other catacomb section.

  1. Mike, that is awe inspiring. Very, very cool idea to do an Egyptian tomb.

Absolutely perfect choice for the games!
