Army of the orcs

Man, I loves me some orcs.  The army below takes up  two tackle boxes, and I have about three more tackle boxes of loose orcs based for RPGs, including cavalry (but not counting goblins and half-orcs!)

This army can field everything in the Mordor and Misty Mountains lists for DBA, with many extras (Shooters, chariots, etc.).  About half the pictures didn’t come out so well, so there are not a lot of closeups, but you can always click to embiggen.  See the army of Robilar for some pics of the orc infantry.

These archers are Ral Patha (front), some plastic Citadel goblins (center), and Citadel orcs (rear, from the Harboth’s Orc Archer boxed regiment).

A column of snotlings.  More Hordes in HOTT terms.  The ball-and-chain fanatics could use DBA Scythed chariot rules, as could the pump wagon.

The snotling pump wagon.

Part of the orc’s baggage train, this is the Grenadier Orc Beer Wagon with some drunken snotlings added and a boar replacing whatever the hell the original draft animal was (it looked like a baby owl bear or something).  I added the yoke and harness, flag, and the driver’s whip.

Two more happy customers.

Lastly, more baggage.   Every orc army should have a mound of heads, Mongol style.  The smiths (who still need a bellows and charcoal pot) are by Mithril Miniatures, who made some of the best LotR figures.

  1. I dig that pile of dwarf heads! So great!

    • Thanks! The old Citadel “Plastic armies” box had ten extra heads for each ofthe six or so races of troops you could make from it, so I had tons of extra dwarf and elf heads lying around (I bought two of those sets back in the 1980s!). The rats are Heritage Models giants rats, and I have actually popped them off the bases to use in RPGs again…
