Film Fridays: El corazón del guerrero

I’ve watched a good number of absolutely horrible fantasy films in my day. The warrior and the sorceress, yet another re-tread of the plot of Yojimbo. Yor, which I remember thinking was ridiculous even as an 11-year old. The god-awful Lou Ferrigno version of Hercules, which I believe involved Herc fighting some robot scorpions or crabs on the moon.  I narrowly missed seeing Ator, the fighting eagle, in the theaters (it’s run ended before my brother & I got a ride to the movies.  I imagine we watched something else instead).

So my threshold for watching fantasy films is pretty low, although I don’t think I’ve watched any of the Deathstalker movies, for whatever reason.

So when I was flipping through channels a few years ago I stopped on a bizarre scene in a dungeon, which as I recall featured a laboratory that had a shelf lined with human heads, and the heads watched balefully from the background as some mild fantasy drama unfolded in the room. It was entirely in Spanish with no subtitles so I could not really figure out what was going on, but soon the scene changed to some modern high school students, and it was clear they were playing some D&D-like game. Other scenes would depict some super-hero type exploits, and also espionage, but I was tired and never finished watching the movie, thinking perhaps I’d find a dubbed or subtitled version some day. I caught the title, El corazón del guerrero, but I’ve never seen it on DVD anywhere (I just searched Amazon and apparently there is a subtitled DVD, but I usually don’t buy DVDs any more because I’ve found I never watch them again).

Anyone seen this?

  1. I haven’t but it looks like Netflix has it.

  2. You’re a librarian–ILL it. 😛

I saw both Ator and Deathstalker III on MST3K, and from reading reviews and watching clips of the unmocked versions, I prefer the MST3Ks.

  3. No, I haven’t seen it — but I speak Spanish, therefore I MUST.

  4. I bow to your B-Movie altar of goodness.
