The first refugees arrive at the Galloway Memorial Home for Wayward and Convalescent Figures

So it took me almost two hours to commute home last night, due in part to unidentified traffic problems on one highway and a massive traffic jam due to the semi-retarded fans of Tim McGraw taking up two lanes for a five mile stretch of route 8. Memo for Tim McGraw fans: If the exit lane is backed up for over a mile, there is very little likelihood any of your fellow bad music fans will let you in line if you just drive another half mile farther down the center lane. These are not superfriendly/stoned Deadheads or something. They are sixteen year old tardines just like you and want get to the show and do whatever the hell semi-retarded modern country fans do at concerts. Probably hit on their cousins.*

Anyway my fuming was brought to a screeching halt when I came home to find a bigass box addressed to me on he counter, and my lovely wife and daughter waiting to have dinner with me. I did my best not to wolf down dinner and to listen to their stories graciously and waited until I was done to tear into it.

Hole. Lee. Crap! Click to embiggen. Drool. Envy.

That’s about four or five pounds of lead. I guess there are upwards of 100 minis there, maybe less because some of them are BIG. There were many fantastic surprises: the “wounded” skeleton from the old Grenadier Tomb of Spells (I had a copy which broke badly long ago); three Grenadier wererats from the old AD&D blisters, four Ral Partha trolls from 1979 or so; and to top it all off, the four Heritage Models hirelings figures!!! Nerdgasm.

The kindly donor was Michael from Specter Studios. He didn’t ask for anything in return, except possibly the opportunity to give away a mask! (More on that later.) Check out their site and buy one of everything, though, OK? Specter Studios is really cool and employs local artists and makes everything in the USA (if Pittsburgh is still technically part of the USA).

*Uh, just kidding. I’m sure Quickdraw McGraw and his fans are all really intelligent, kindhearted souls who just wanted to have some fun listening to shitty music without the courage to be either pop or country and splitting the difference with “crappy.”**

**OK, that was uncalled for. Apparently Tim McGraw does a lot of charity work and has politically ok views and actually I have no idea what he sounds like, and its not his fault that some of his fans should not be allowed to drive. Or reproduce.***

***I’ll quit now. The traffic pattern for Blossom Music Center sucks no matter who is playing.

  1. Wow, what a haul. I got one of those Grenedier Giant Snakes this year…really cool mini. Very nice cache of nerdy goodness. Have fun with that.

  2. Wow Mike this may be the most excited and discouraged I’ve seen you since we met! LOL

That care package from Michael is fantastic! What a great act on his part. You have more will power than I do in holding off until after dinner with the family before opening it though!

Your description of the traffic with Blossom was hilarious too! I am so glad I don’t have to deal with traffic up that way any longer. I do remember those days and with less exit ramps back then too.

  3. ‘tardine’…

    What an absolutely awesome word.

    You rock.

  4. […] ghoul seem like ancestors of the later Reaper figures.  Here is a set of ghouls generously donated to the Galloway Memorial Home for Convalescent and Wayward Minis.  They were made by […]
