Contest!

Almost a year ago, I posted my vegetarian Rat on a Stick recipe.  Delicious to eat and disgusting to look at.

I need another such thing to make for this year’s Halloween party.  The criteria is,

  1. It must be vegetarian*
  2. It must be disgusting**
  3. It must taste reasonably good
  4. It should be a food rather than a desert (and ideally be kid-friendly but that is not essential)

The prize, apart from my sincere thanks, is TBD.  Michael “Khazan” over at Specter Studios has already offered a half mask, probably a Dragon half mask.  If he can come through with that, that will be the prize.  If not, I have some other goodies I’m not using — some awesome sci-fi/fantasy zines, some old game books, some minis, that sort of thing.

The judging will be done by my wife & I (if we don’t agree we’ll each make the recipe we like and let Riley choose the one she likes more).  I’ll of course post a how-to as I make it, like I did for Rat-on-a-stick.  I will try to wrap up the contest by no later than September 21. Enter by commenting here on this post.

*No animal parts, including any kind of fish, bird, mammal, insect, crustacean, mollusk, arachnid, worm, etc.  Strictly plants and fungi.  No gelatin. I am that hardcore.  Dairy products, and honey, are OK.  I am not THAT hardcore.

**To look at.  You may be tempted to comment that vegetarian food is inherently disgusting.  That will make me shrug and get all yawny.

  1. I don’t really have any ideas but I am curious as to how your Rat on a Stick came out last year. Sounds fun and interesting!

    • The first link in the post shows how the looked. And they were really, really good, in my opinion. All 24 were consumed by the 15 attendees. I should make a batch for game night some time.

  2. […] way to me as we speak, and I will be embarrassed, even humiliated, if there are no good entries!  Comment on this post with your recipe.  If you are having trouble leaving a comment there, email me at mike period monaco at symbol […]

  3. Does it have to be something which doesn’t need to be kept hot? I have a recipe for ‘Quasimodo Pasta’ that would otherwise qualify.

    • Hot, cold, room temperature, doesn’t matter. Just needs to be a food/appetizer type thing.

  4. […] that contest… It’s still on.  I don’t think I mentioned a deadline in the first post (which also outlines the rules) but the deadline is September […]

  5. Pea Soup. Groddy Lentils (very spicy). Wasabi-Psto Worms (noodles). Squash-Vomit (spaghetti-squash caserole). Anything like that soung interesting?

    • I’m not a fan of pea soup but it certainly has some possibilities– a clever name and/or serving bowl could make any of a number of things.

Please do submit recipes of the others! They sound great!
