Out of curiosity, I went ahead and counted my painted minis.  I included some pre-painted WotC and such that I consider “good enough” for the table, but not figures I’m not done painting, none of the scenery, none of the toys and none of the miscellaneous stuff that sometimes finds its way to the table.  I counted the armies of minis that are based for HOTT/DBA separately, but otherwise did not try to classify things beyond “monsters” and “men” (which includes demi-humans).  Large monsters, mounted figures, models with multiple connected figures, including chariots and even the goblin war giant, all count as one figure.  I did not count my 1/72 armies yet.

Individually based figures:

Monsters: 807

Men: 457

Figures based on war gaming stands:

Ape army: 34

Dwarf army: 79

Elf army: 63

Bats & spiders hordes: 4

Men: 222

Orcs: 86

Skeletons: 59

Grand total of painted 25/28mm fantasy miniatures: 1811

It’s  much harder to count “unpainted” minis because I have a lot of cheap plastic minis from boardgames like Lionheart and Battlemasters that I may eventually decide not to paint.

  1. I don’t dare count my minis. If my wife realizes just how much money i’ve blow on those…

  2. One thousand eight hundred and eleven minis!

Are you sure your garage is structurally sound enough to support all that metal?

    • When I was (briefly) into Prince August molds, I think they said 1lb. of lead/tin alloy = 25-40 human minis. 25 is more like it in my experience. 1811/25 = a little more than 72 lbs. But since a lot are mounted on horses/wolves/etc or larger than man-sized, I’m gonna guess an even 100 lbs all told. Altohugh I keep them in my rec room; the garage on my house is not attached and the extremes of temp & humidity would probably mess them up good. Plus I need them ready-to-hand for D&D!!!!!!! 🙂

  3. Only 79 dwarves? That does not sound right.

    • 79 that are based together as an army. There are another 60 or 70 based individually, not counting those unpainted or unfinished. I added headings to the lists to clarify that.
