What the hell is Ghola Scale?

Got some stuff I’d like to eventually post about, including reviews, but in the meantime just found a neat newish blog about restoring old minis.  It’s called Ghola Scale (?) and when I saw the pingback from his post I went through and left comments on some of his posts but now his blog looks weird with mostly comments from one dude one every post so would you please be so kind as to stop over and tell whoever is running the blog how awesome his blog is already shaping up to be (if you’re into minis)?

BTW I never read Dune but Google tells me that a ghola is a sort of clone made from dead tissues.

  1. Nice find. A promising blog. I bought a shit load of old school miniatures, individually, in the last six months and its always a pleasure to see them well photographed.

  2. Never heard of a ‘Ghola Scale’, but in the Dune universe, a ghola is essentially a clone. The clone can be put under severe psychological trauma and have the memories of the ‘original’ person awakened within it. Essentially, this is a roundabout way of immortality.

To my knowledge, though, there isn’t evidence that specific memories and experiences ’embed’ themselves in the DNA. However, the work of this guy indicates that (under certain conditions) acquired characteristics become inherited ones.

    • Hmm… kind of like those (now sadly discredited) planarian experiements (a guy “taught” planarians to pair light and shocks and then ground them up and fed them to other planarians who supposedly were better at learning than non-cannibals but I think it was not really replicated). Bizarrely, my psych prof in college related this story but said the flatworms were taught to navigate maze, and it was much later I leanred that they were just learning to curl up when exposed to a light.
Planarians running through a maze would have been awesome. Like that one Escher lithograph.

      • That’s the stuff… this line of science isn’t addressed very well.

Not a surprise, really. Real developments in this could offer a lot more cultural damage than benefits… What if certain bloodlines ‘evolve’ faster (brings back racism/eugenics)? It could offer hard proof of Darwinian evolution (are we sure that we want that right now?) I can’t imagine what it would do to philosophy. If your progeny have a connection to ancestral memories, does this usher in a different paradigm of worship and spirituality?

Might make for really good Science Fiction, but…
