Mystery minis — Colonial gentry

On our vacation to Williamsburg last month, I picked up a souvenir — these two minis.

All I know about them is that they were made in the USA.  The packaging doesn’t really list a manufacturer…and the bases were pre-filed, so there is nothing there.   They’re about 28mm scale, and the detail is not terribly crisp.  There were some soldiers (American, British, Hessian) but I didn’t pick any of them up.  I’m guessing they were repackaged for  souvenir shops.  Any ideas?

  1. Some time ago someone reported (on TMP i think) that a guy in the US was pirating Suren ‘Willie’ 30mm figures (owned by Tradition) and supplying them to various NP sites. I don’t immediately recognise the figures in your photo but the gent definitely has the look of a Suren figure – maybe one of his SYW figures. The legit suppliers of ‘Willie’ figures are here:

    • Fascinating! They sure do seem similar, although I didn’t see these precise minis on the site you linked. Wish I’d gotten some soldiers though to compare. The bases on the Tradition 25s are square, so maybe it is from the 30mm line. I guess they could just be OOP.

Man, you try to do right (buy American made rather than Chinese) and you end up supporting pirates. Sheesh.

  2. I’m with DC on the Willie front, very similar, or maybe the sculptor that works the Jacdaw line of miniatures (he does work for Tradition from time to time) and I believe he is US based…..

Fancy bumping into DC here, I had to pinch.
