Favorite nonmagical item

You mean besides my 10′ pole?

I guess I’d point to the auger, again.  Already said all there is to say about.

As an aside, I’ve heard of complaints about equipping characters and while I hate tracking encumbrance as much as anyone, I do think it adds something to the game to have to list what your character actually has rather than having some abstracted rule for whipping things out as needed, as I’ve heard some ‘story’ games do.  (I can’t remember what game it was, but someone told me about a system where you have a certain number of ‘oh, I happen to have a crowbar in my purse’ type stunts you can pull per session.)  So anyway put me in the camp with people who like equipment lists.

  1. I never considered the auger… a brilliant tool.

  2. Batman points…

I’m a big proponent of misc-item lists. I love to have a character who is prepared for anything. Bell, whistle, crowbar, soap, rope, soap on a rope… Also, I strongly encourage parties to bring trowels and plenty of toilet paper with them. God knows what hero-poo will attract in the wilderness.

  3. Also a big fan of “if it ain’t written down, you don’t have it!” Equipment lists are part of the game, and I don’t mind being slightly OCD about keeping track of my character’s gear.

  4. I like equipments lists in D&D too. Its part of the resource management aspect of the game. Generally other than one set of clothes, ifyou don’t list it, you don’t have it. I don’t mind the “I had that” sysystem under some circumstances though, its standard in GURPS (its called Gadget) and I’ve dabbled with other games. Its not really D&D though

Also “gear lists” I don’t fitin some games Modern and future people might have a lot of stuff and vast wealth at hand so say in a game of Angel “its in the van” or “the bot is carrying it” will suffice
